Zipolite works beautifully as a base for exploring this part of the Oaxaca coast: you walk from one beach to the next, days organise themselves between sea and shade, and the neighbouring villages are within an easy outing. Here is what our guests usually do during their stay.
Cocos Hotel is in Zipolite, on Camino a Cocos, in the Playa del Amor area. Mazunte, San Agustinillo and Puerto Ángel are neighbouring destinations you can visit from here.
A day at Playa del Amor
It is the closest cove to the hotel: you reach it on foot, the water sits sheltered between rocks and it is the natural spot for an unhurried swim, reading in the shade or staying on for the end of the day.
As anywhere along the open Oaxaca coast, enter the water carefully and check the day's conditions before swimming.

Zipolite's long beach is walked end to end: it is the classic plan at the close of the day, when the light drops and the sand fills with people sitting and watching the sea. From the quiet end where the hotel sits, the walk is part of the outing.

Neighbouring villages on the coast
During a stay in Zipolite it is common to set aside a day to see other spots along the Oaxaca coast.
San Agustinillo
A small bay between Zipolite and Mazunte, with an unhurried pace and more sheltered water than the open beach. A good choice for a morning by the sea without leaving the area.
Puerto Ángel
A fishing village with a bay and pier, on the other side of Zipolite. It is the closest place to see everyday seaside life in this part of the coast.
Surfing and the sea in Zipolite
Zipolite is an open-sea beach on the Pacific, with the swell and currents typical of this coast. That is part of its character: here the ocean is watched, heard and respected. You will see people surfing, people walking the shoreline and people simply sitting in front of the waves.
Conditions change from day to day, so the best approach is to look at the sea when you arrive, ask locally on the beach and take your time deciding. If you are hoping to surf, check the state of the sea during your visit.
